Female Expendables To Follow Expendables 3? – ManlyMovie

Female Expendables To Follow Expendables 3?

UPDATED: Got a small update on this.  This movie will supposedly shoot shortly after the release of The Expendables 3 at Nu Boyana studios.  That’s late summer/early autumn 2014.

It seems The Expendables 3 won’t be the last Expendables movie produced by Avi Lerner.  This week he has told Bulgarian media that the long rumored female Expendables is on the horizon.  Some Bulgarian sources have added that it’ll be put into production at ‘full speed’, but we’ll stick with the English edition of standartnews.com, who Lerner revealed it to.  Lerner stated;

The action movie will be spectacular – and in nothing inferior to the three male movies of the “The Expendables” There will be battles, special and visual effects and stunts – the spectacle will be equivalent to what Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis and Jean Claude van Damme have done … Two excellent screenwriters are already working on the picture. Now we are in search of a female director.

The site suggest Cameron Diaz, Meryl Streep and Milla Jovovich are part of the project.  The movie will supposedly be set in Southeast Asia.  Last I heard on this, Expendables 2 director Simon West was handling it and screenwriter Dutch Southern was writing.  Gina Carano was the last rumored addition.  Supposedly then, that’s changed if Lerner is seeking a female director.  I don’t expect this to be good at all.  The best action heroines ever have all retired, if the premise is the same (retro stars) and it’s hard enough to have old men kick convincing ass.  Why Meryl Steep would be hired as the ‘veteran’ (or whatever) and not Linda Hamilton or Sigourney Weaver is beyond me.  Linda Hamilton/Sarah Connor is quite clearly the most badass female heroine of all time and would have the Lara Croft’s of this world for breakfast.

As for a director?  I think the logical solution is clearly Katherine ‘Point Break’ Bigelow.  But that’s also the expensive solution.  Avi Lerner doesn’t do expensive solutions.  So, even though this was Lerner talking, still a rumor as far as I’m concerned.  But likely true and a logical follow up to The Expendables 3.
