Alien Franchise News – Are Things Looking Up?

Alright, so the chances are you disliked Prometheus and downright hated Aliens: Colonial Marines. Both of which were canon by the way.  So after two terrible AVP movies, that’s a long streak of poorness.  Things might be looking up though.  A sequel to Prometheus is coming and the new writer has been told to make things “more Alien-y”.  The new writer is Michael Green, who wrote the Green Lantern.  Sorry, we can’t vouch for the man because we’re too manly too watch comic book movies. However we’ll take the news as a positive.

On the gaming side of this franchise word is that developers are doubling down on how serious they are getting with Alien: Isolation.  I have found evidence to the contrary though.  This article declares the game to be buggy and unimpressive:

The problem is that the xenomorph’s AI is frustratingly inconsistent. The hallway I was in had mini-walls to hide behind, every five feet or so. At one point I heard the xenomorph coming and squeezed up tight behind one — no problem. It walked right by me, a mere two feet from my hiding spot. Then as it began to circle to the side I’d been hiding on, I slipped over to the other side of the wall (where it had just walked). This time as it passed by, it saw me. Blood. Murder. Death.

That’s before we get to the horrible idea of using Ellen Ripley’s daughter as the main protagonist, which is all kinds of worrying and possibly worse than the usage of the Corporal Hicks character in Aliens: Colonial Marines.  There is no release date for the game yet, but Prometheus 2 is scheduled for March 2016.

Below is a developer diary feature for Alien: Isolation.
