CGI Paul Walker Will Be Used In Fast & Furious 7 (2015)

To solve the conundrum of Paul Walker only having shot 50% of the required footage for his Brian O’Conner character, the producers of Fast & Furious 7 (2015) had to carry out some extensive rewrites to try and make the best of footage already in the can.

But it turned out that this wouldn’t be enough. As a result, the production will use a mix of body doubles and CGI technology for key scenes that the late actor didn’t shoot:  “They have hired four actors with bodies very similar to Paul’s physique and they will be used for movement and as a base. Paul’s face and voice will be used on top using CGI.”, says the New York Daily News.

They still have up to two months shooting left to finish. Last week, Vin Diesel said: “The transition into that Dom state of mind has always been an interesting one… only this time there is added purpose, a collective goal to make this the best one in the series. P.s. The long awaited completion of Seven, begins…”

It’s not the first time CGI has been used in such circumstances.  After his untimely demise during the shooting of Gladiator, CGI was used to bring Oliver Reed’s character Proximo to completion and CGI has come a long way since then.  On the other hand, unless this movie is set years after Tokyo Drift, how are they going to explain Lucas Black being too old to play an 18 year old…?
