Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) – 160 Minutes Long?

Mad Max: Fury Road will run for 2 hours and 40 minutes, according to lead actor Tom Hardy.  That’s supposedly what has been said in the May edition of Esquire Magazine, where Hardy corrects someone on a statement that the movie will run for 2 hours and 20 minutes.

He is especially sleek and satiny; if Hardy ever plays Bond, he’ll have to snap the neck of someone who looks just like him. Instead, Hardy asks, “Have you seen it?”

“Yes,” the man says. “It’s six hours.”?

“It’s going to be awesome, though.”

“Yes, at two hours and twenty minutes.”

Hardy cocks a playful finger at the man. “Two-forty.”

“Two-twenty,” the man says, and then is gone.

I’m not sure I liked the sound of that.  It could be too long, or maybe it’s just the effect The Raid 2 had on me with it’s overlong run time.  The Raid 1 and Mad Max 2 both ran at 100 and 95 mins respectively, something that helped sent them down in history as two of the greatest ever with their amazing pacing.  Although to be fair, The Raid 2 suffered more from a dull and mediocre screenplay than the actual run time.

I think what’s likely here is that Miller’s cut is 160 minutes, the one Hardy has seen, and ‘the man’ has seen the Warners cut, 140 minutes.
