Upcoming historical epic Dragon Blade has scored a (Chinese) release date of February 19th. The film will also get a 3D Imax release. The movie is said to be, if not the most expensive Chinese production ever, certainly at the top in that regard. Everything about the film so far looks tier-1 in my opinion, with real sandstorms etc, as opposed to cooking up such effects in some CGI suite.
Originally but falsely rumored to star Mel Gibson, The film stars Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody. Cusack will play Lucius, a Roman general who leads a legion of soldiers into China. Brody plays power-hungry Tiberius, who has killed Roman Consul Crassus and chases after Lucius with 100,000 troops.
The previously announced Jackie Chan stars as commander of the protectorate of the western regions, who teams up with Lucius to protect China’s borders and sovereignty.
The movie will see Chan and Cusack fight twice in the movie, according to Cusack’s Twitter and considering that Benny “The Jet” Urquidez is the stunt choreographer and that Chan has hyped the script as “world class”, as well as how professional and polished this movie is looking, we could be onto something.
