Hanks/Spielberg WW2 Mini Series – $50 Million Per Episode

MASTERSAIR

Steven Spieberg and Tom Hanks are again returning to the WW2 genre with another 10 part mini series.  ‘Masters of the Air will film for HBO and will be focusing on the missions on the mighty 8th American air squadron.

The 10 hour series which, at a cost of some £500 million, is the most expensive series in history at $50 million per episode and will be filmed at locations in England and Germany.  One of the sites being looked at for filming is RAF Manston in England on account of its historical relevance.

This will be their fifth collaboration after Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and The Pacific.  And of course their coming Cold War thriller.  The project will use as its source material historian Donald L. Miller’s nonfiction tome Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany.

Looking forward to it, you can never have enough WW2 material, especially with giant budgets.  Don’t forget Danny Boyle has his own 10 part WW2 mini series, ‘Telemark’, also in the pipeline.
