Manly Movies Coming In 2015

Black Sea – January 23rd

blackseas

What’s better than a treasure hunting movie, on the trail of gold?  Answer: a thriller where the hunters are going after it in a submarine.  This one is supposedly a damned good movie.  The studio has certainly been keen to draw in critics to give it a look.  At has a good premise anyway, but don’t you wish Jim Cameron would return to this kind of thing and film a movie like this?  Just a basic cool story?  Hell it’s even underwater.

Synopsis:

Soon after losing his salvage job, former naval officer Robinson (Jude Law) assembles a misfit crew of unemployed sailors for a risky mission: Find a sunken Nazi U-boat, rumored to contain a fortune in gold. Promising each man an equal share, Robinson leads the mixed British and Russian crew to comb the depths of the Black Sea. Before long, greed takes hold of a crew already divided along language and cultural lines — and the fewer men that make it back alive, the more gold to go around.

The Gunman – March 20

One that I forgot to include.  The Gunman starring Sean Penn should definitely be one to keep an eye out for.  Director Pierre Morel gave us the original (R-rated) Taken, not to mention From Paris With Love (remember that?).  So here’s hoping that this one is the start of a new trilogy, Taken-style.  But hopefully with Morel hanging around this time.  Let’s hope this one is as good as it looks.

Synopsis:

A former Special Forces soldier (Sean Penn) who has PTSD tries to reconnect with his longtime lover, but must first go on the run across Europe to clear his name.

Blood Father – TBA

bloodfather

The GOAT will return in 2015 for a psychological thriller in Blood Father.  It’ll have a fine supporting cast (such as William H. Macy) but even better is directed by Mesrine helmer Jean-François Richet.  If you haven’t seen those two movies then I highly recommend them, even if you don’t like subtitled affairs it is still worth it (they’re in French).  Blood Father has been picked up by Lions Gate for an unspecified 2015 release.

Synopsis:

A celebration at a musical theatre society hosted by an American ex-con goes terribly wrong when drug dealers plan to kill his daughter.

Furious 7 – April 3rd

furiousb

You can’t really leave a movie featuring cars and fight scenes between Vin Diesel and Jason Statham and The Rock and Jason Statham off this list.  Not to mention the inclusion of Tony Jaa in his American film debut.  This movie is going to be somewhat darker in tone, says SAW director James Wan.  I guess this is the direct competition for rival car ’em-up Mad Max: Fury Road.  With the death of Paul Walker and the might of the cast this movie should be a monstrous success.  They’re planning more as well.

Synopsis:

Furious 7 is set to take place after Fast & Furious 6. After defeating Owen Shaw and his crew, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew are able to return to the United States and live the normal life again as they had wanted, but Owen’s older brother, Ian Shaw (Jason Statham), is after Dominic, seeking revenge for the death of his brother, putting the entire crew in danger once more. After learning of Han’s death, the crew sets out to find the man who killed one of their own, before he finds them first.
