Top Five: Jean Claude Van Damme Movies
4) The Expendables 2 (2012)
How happy I am to be putting a Jean-Claude movie from the past decade on this list. Ever since the first Expendables was announced in 2008, I’d waited for this. His role was the best thing about the movie. It was only the third time in his career as playing a ‘Villain’, good choice by Sly, West and Co. He’s a surprisingly good villain and he stole the show, even if that wasn’t too difficult.
He looks like the old Van Damme in this too, not the tired, unhappy DTV Van Damme and the fight with Stallone is a career highlight for sure. In today’s world of messy fights, it could easily have been fucked up, but it was actually a great fight – but too short. In fact I’m not sure how the franchise can top it if it does continue with a fourth movie.
