Top Five: Gulf War Movies
4) Bravo Two Zero (1999)
Alright, so now we get to the real stuff. Bravo Two Zero is a TV movie produced by the BBC in 1999, based on the botched SAS raid of Saddam’s Scud/TEL launchers in western Iraq. Starring Sean Bean, it is one of the very few Gulf War movies that is set right in the thick of the action. Other movies are set before (Jarhead), others are set after (Three Kings), so this one type of movie is rare.
One problem though is that the entire account is fictional. Andy McNab, the central character, has long since been exposed by his SAS cohorts as a fraud and liar. Still, it’s a movie. And Sean Bean was pretty much who I would’ve picked to lead the cast.
