Top Five: Living Dead Movies
4) Dawn Of The Dead (2004)
Another remake?! As demonstrated, sometimes remakes work. And the follow up to the first remake is another example. This remake, directed by Zack Snyder, is somewhat better and edgier than the first remake – although by no means better than the original movie it is re-telling.
It kind of turns things on their head by bringing in the running zombie, which purists may not like. Personally I haven’t had much of a problem with those, if everything else is done correctly. This movie was a breath of fresh air back in the day.
You see, Paul W.S. Anderson had shat in our mouths by taking over the Resident Evil franchise (taking it from George Romero ironically) and given us two terrible zombie movies. So when Snyder came out with this sober and morbid remake, it was most welcome. Don’t knock it if it looks trashy and cynical, it’s a great film.
