It looks like they are furiously going ahead with more “Fast” movies and not just sequels either. Those spin off movies that have been rumoured appear to be going ahead. Vin Diesel has spoken about these this week.
“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” said Diesel. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
He hasn’t said which characters would get their own standalone films, but in the past, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has hinted that he’d like to see his character, Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs, branch out into independent adventures. That sounds like the good money to me.
They (Universal) are probably looking to turn this into a Marvel style universe, or in other words a money spinning empire. It is kind of odd when you think about it, that a Rob Cohen movie from 2001 with no-name actors would turn into such a behemoth.
I think “The Rock” has a lot to do with keeping this series relevant.
