Sutherland’s New Political Thriller Series

Fans of Jack Bauer rejoice, since Kiefer Sutherland is returning to television, acting as both the executive producer (cha-ching) and taking on the role of the President of the United States in ABC’s upcoming political thriller ‘Designated Survivor’.

Sutherland will play a U.S. Cabinet member suddenly appointed to the actual POTUS position after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. The series also follows what kind of effect this has on the man’s family.

Coming in as a straight-to-series order, Simon Kinberg, of the X-Men movies, will also executive produce alongside documentary filmmaker David Guggenheim writing the screenplay. Mark Gordon Company will also produce the series.

The series is said to have a somewhat conspiratorial slant to it.  I don’t think I could take it seriously if it was not.
