Hans Zimmer Officially Abandons Comic Book Movies

Who has been superior or even the equal to Hans Zimmer in music composition?  I don’t know, Jerry Goldsmith, maybe?  Anyway it goes without saying that he is one of the greatest of all time. And he has done quite a few comic book movie scores.

But now it seems that Zimmer is burned out with this 15 year stretch of these movies, being pumped out now at a rate of one every three months.  “I’m sort of… I might as well say it, I’m officially retired from the super hero business”.  Echoing complaints from anyone of reasonable intelligence that these awful movies are now both too many in number and just awful in quality, Zimmer says: “This one (Batman Vs. Superman) was very hard for me to do.  I struggled to find new language, to say something fresh”.

The interviewer then asks Zimmer if Steven Spielberg was right when he said that comic book movies needed to go away, like the western did.  Zimmer says there are a few more to come, but the interviewer then quickly asks if Zimmer’s “heart sinks” when he opens yet another envelope for a movie about a “bloke in tights with special powers”, which Zimmer answers diplomatically.

The interview took place on ‘Hardline’.  See below.
