Underrated Manly Movies: Part VI
Poseidon (2006)
People may well think, how can you include a remake of a Gene Hackman classic on this list? Well, I begrudgingly have to concede that the 2006 version of Poseidon is kind of a manly movie. Kurt Russell fills in for Ernest Borgnine and we get a generally tepid, but quite watchable re-do.
To me, the concept works again. The ship is upturned, and survivors try to make their way out, fighting the water that chases them. There’s some overly politically correct stuff in there, perhaps a tad too much CGI here and there. But I sort of valued the effort put in here, it’s not cheap to build the interiors for a cruise liner upside down, nowadays who knows what lengths they’d go to to try and screw us out of such a simple but costly environment.
5.6 on the IMDb? 33% on the RottenTomatoes site? Sorry, but I simply don’t agree. It’s not bad!
