Underrated Manly Movies: Part VI
Into The White (2012)
I’d stuff this list wholly with WW2 movies if I could, but I think two will do it in this instance. The second WW2 movie on this list is Into The White, a 2013 survival thriller set during the last war.
In the movie, a group of British and German airmen are stranded in the asshole of nowhere in Norway during the winter after a battle. They all converge in a cabin and discover that as winter in Norway really is bent on killing them all regardless of which side they’re on, they have to put their differences aside and try to make things work inside their shelter.
This movie has a lot of old fashioned tendencies about it. No yelling or screaming or cheesy crap, it’s aim is to sell tension among upstanding WW2 gentleman on the wrong sides of the fence and it mostly succeeds. When I watched this movie, I had low hopes and found the movie surprisingly decent, if not a masterpiece. Maybe the best thing is the atmosphere… one to watch as the nights grow colder!
