The Walking Dead Season 7 Is Bleeding Viewers

walkingdeads5

The Walking Dead is into its seventh season and we could be seeing the first signs of the writing on the wall.  The debut episode, which had chief villain Negen (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) violently smash the skulls of regulars ’till they died real good, drew 17.03 million viewers.

This week, the latest episode drew less than 11 million viewers.

This is an unbelievable hemorrhage in viewership, six million.  The second episode showed the biggest drop, going all the way down to 12.5 million and that should not be surprising because it was clearly one of the worst episodes (if not the worst) in the series’ history.  It was a strong departure from the quality of Morgan’s stuff because, of course, he wasn’t in it and instead it veered way off course into quite frankly bizarre and atrocious new age hippy soap opera.

Episode three went down to 11.7 million and four dropped again to 11.4.  So obviously Morgan’s reappearance did nothing to alleviate the drop.

I have not read the comics nor will I ever, but apparently there will be a new group introduced who walk among the dead while covering themselves in guts.  Quite frankly on a personal level this is not something I would be interested in watching at all.  That could well hasten the end of this series.

One thing is clear, this show is less and less a ‘zombie’ feature than it is a soap opera, something George Romero has critisized it for.  It’s pretty much like a more violent take on the TV show Jericho.
