Trailer for Ringo Lam’s ‘Sky on Fire’ (2016)

UPDATED: The trailer with English subtitles has hit the web.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming Chinese action thriller Sky on Fire directed by Hong Kong action veteran Ringo Lam (Wild City, Maximum Risk). The film is apparently the latest entry in Lam’s cult “…on Fire” crime film series, with the previous entries being Prison on Fire, Prison on Fire II, City on Fire and School on Fire, the first three starring Chow Yun-Fat.

Unfortunately there are no trailers with English subtitles yet, but this link will be refreshed once one becomes available. Subtitles or not, this trailer looks pretty good, a strong old school Hong Kong action vibe which is always a good thing, in my opinion.

The plot apparently follows a security guard (Daniel Wu) who becomes embroiled in a battle to protect stem cell research, which can potentially cure cancer, from falling into the wrong hands. That could change, though, as other sites report that the film’s plot is still under wraps. Hell, as of this writing, imdB hasn’t even listed the film’s page yet.

Leading star Daniel Wu (Warcraft, New Police Story), has described the film as City on Fire 2:

“I said yes without even reading the script because John Woo, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark are the guys who have initiated this new wave of classic Hong Kong and I always wanted to work with them. The movie is called Sky on Fire, but it could just as well be described as City on Fire 2.

My sentiments exactly. Sky on Fire also stars Amber Kuo (Jian Bing Man), Joseph Chang (Wild City), Leon Lai (Bodyguards and Assassins), Zhang Jingchu (Rush Hour 3), Simon Yam (SPL II: A Time for Consequences) and Gordon Lam (Trivisa). The film hits Asian theaters on November 25, 2016.

Also, two posters for the film:

  • Yeah, very good! By the way, me and the wife went to go see ‘The Accountant’ this weekend. All I’m going to tell you is, “head shots”. Lots of them 👍🏻

I saw it too, actually sort of enjoyable. A bit slow in the beginning but picks up pretty fast once shit hits the fan. Plus weirdo Ben Affleck using an anti-aircraft rifle to headshot goons is always a plus in my book.

It sounds like I completely misjudged The Accountant based on the title.

Hmmm…looks right up our street, but…there was a bit of dodgy CGI in Wild City and it looks like there is some here too…Ringo Lam doesn’t need it.

I think it’s reached the point where we ask which Chinese/Hong Kong film does NOT have CGi in them… Trivisa is a rare recent one
