Underrated Manly Movies: Part VII

3) At The End of the Tunnel (2016)

This is the best Argentinian movie I’ve ever seen.  Come to think of it, it’s the only Argentinian movie I’ve ever seen, but it damn sure leaves a good impression to start with.  This finely directed movie (oh, the camerawork, like an amazing and masterful antithesis to shaking cam spazzing shit) was picked up by a major American studio, because they had confidence in it too.

What’s it about?

A man who has lost his wife and daughter, along with the ability to walk, lives alone in his apartment in a wheelchair. In order to fend off foreclosure, he rents part of it to a beautiful stripper and her daughter.  The woman is coming on strong on the man, probably suspiciously so.  It turns out that she is the boyfriend of a scumbag gangster who is digging a hole beneath the protagonist’s apartment, in order to rob a vault next door.  They’re all scamming and humiliating him.

But our hero is intelligent.  And he grows wise to what is happening and plans to get some of that money himself, and screw over and ‘ruin’ his assailants.

This two hour movie is full of heavy and effective character relations and development, you feel for this person stripped of his manhood and most definitely root for him in the tense situation he’s in.  There are a few twists and they don’t feel gimmicky.  I kind of sensed the ending early on though.
