Deadline is reporting that Jovan Adepo (Fences) and Kurt Russell’s son Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some!!) have signed on to the new J.J. Abrams-produced Overlord, which will be released in 2018 via Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures. The World War II film is set to begin filming over in the UK this coming May, and the plot is wonderfully bonkers.
On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
Julius Avery, who directed A24’s Son of a Gun, will direct the movie, which was penned by Billy Ray from an idea he had with Abrams. The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith has done a slight polish on the draft, with Abrams and Lindsey Weber producing for Bad Robot.
