20 Of The Best TV Intros Ever

MIAMI VICE

Another example of a 1980s TV show where I wished I was old enough to have seen it in its original run. But reviewing it recently on Blu-Ray with 5.1 sound was good enough.  This is a nice theme with a cool intro, showing typical 1980s glamour, excess and pastel colors.

In recent years I’ve grown to like Michael Mann’s movie remake more, it has grown on me.  If you disliked it at first, maybe watching it again will have the same effect on you.

AIRWOLF

It seems the 1980s might be disproportionately represented on this list.  But… it is what it is.  The first season intro for Airwolf was its best, using a more organic composition as opposed to the tinnier synth that came in from season 2 onwards.

This was a good TV show.  As mentioned in the Blu-Ray review, it was more mature than its contemporaries like Knight Rider or The A-Team in that it followed a Cold War theme and its protagonist regularly killed bad guys as opposed to tying them up and such.  It also had an R-rated pilot.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

The original spy ’em up has a brilliant intro.  It does its job and then some – prepare you for the episode ahead with an exciting and catchy theme, fueling glimpses of masks and burning tapes.

Rarely, the remake from the Tom Cruise movie took the theme and improved upon it.  Although I’m not sure all will agree that Fred Durst should have ever have gotten his hands on it…

THE X-FILES

Here is another example from the 1990s.  The X-Files intro conveyed a great sense of wonder and mystery.  Not giving away too much and not relying on any actual footage from the series.  Original intros like that are nice.

And you know, I’m glad they went back and brought the old series itself back as opposed to remaking it. I’m not sure what a new series would look like but I’d guess that politicization would be first on the agendas of producers.

BAYWATCH

This might just be the most ‘1990s’ intro out there.  And that’s not a bad thing at all.  Not only does The ‘Hoff look as cool as The ‘Hoff would be expected to look, it also features Pamela ‘Lee’, awesome yellow pick up trucks and a pretty fucking wicked theme tune.

I wonder, is the remake movie worth looking at?
