This teaser trailer is something special.
It was the first taste of the second Expendables movie, after practically everyone was satisfied with the first. It came before the PG-13 scandal, which was first rumoured a few weeks later when Chuck Norris told Polish site Gazeta that the movie was going to be more family friendly based on his demands.
Stallone then confirmed the rumour:
“The PG-13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is large in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, but. fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry.”
Despite confirming the rumour, Stallone later denounced it as ‘odd’, and suggested that it would be ‘R’.
But back to this trailer…
This was from a happier time, that Christmas when it was released and we still didn’t expect PG-13. If you were on the IMDb Expendables boards, it was especially riotous and fun — I wish we could’ve caught this hype in a jar. It’s a good teaser, it gives us what we want; mainly a quick rundown of the cast (minus Scott Adkins). And my favourite part, the Arnold gunshot at the end, which is almost like a throwback to the old Arnold movies. He looks mean and ready, but unfortunately they kind of turned him into a clown in the movie, didn’t they?
There’s something weird though, why does this trailer only have 40,000-ish views, after all these years?
