The Fall 2017 Manly Movie Guide

BLADE RUNNER 2049 – OCTOBER 6TH

Now we’re talking.  This is the first movie on this list that I will kind of be disappointed with if it doesn’t turn out to be good.  I have high hopes for it, you see.  If Denis Villeneuve can’t make this sequel good, then I don’t know.  Harrison Ford should hopefully not also look like an idiot like his late-stage reappearances in Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Synopsis: Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.

BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 – OCTOBER 6TH

Following Hacksaw Ridge, another manly movie for Vince Vaughn.  These violent prison movies are always reliable.  Also, Vince Vaughn will follow this up with another manly movie, Dragged Across Concrete, alongside Mel Gibson.

Synopsis: A desperate former boxer takes work as a drug courier and winds up in a jail where his enemies force him to commit acts of violence.

THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US – OCTOBER 6TH

Released the same day is The Mountain Between Us, a survival thriller starring Idris Elba.  Who can’t get behind a good snowy man vs. wilderness movie?  It should set the tone nicely for the chillier nights this coming winter.

Synopsis: Stranded on a mountain after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must work together to endure the extreme elements of the remote, snow-covered terrain. Realizing that help is not on the way, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing each other to survive and discovering their inner strength.

THE FOREIGNER – OCTOBER 13TH

It’s Jackie Chan versus the IRA in this thriller which will see Pierce Brosnan pull ‘double’ duties for Gerry Adams (not literally, the character is fictional).  During filming, they blasted the shit out of London in this movie, including blow up a bus, without properly informing people, causing a not-so-minor panic.

Synopsis: Quan is a humble London businessman whose long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fueled vendetta when the only person left for him to love — his teenage daughter — dies in a senseless act of politically motivated terrorism. His relentless search to find the terrorists leads to a cat-and-mouse conflict with a British government official whose own past may hold the clues to the identities of the elusive killers.
