The Fall 2017 Manly Movie Guide

THE SNOWMAN – OCTOBER 20TH

The Snowman is sure to be another interesting film to keep an eye on this year.  It stars Michael Fassbender on the trail of a serial killer who is preying on victims with a twist.  The movie was directed by Tomas Alfredson and adapted from the novel of the same name.  If you live in Norway, you can see this earlier, on the 13th.

Synopsis: A boy finds his missing mother’s pink scarf wrapped around the neck of a sinister-looking snowman. Detective Harry Hole is called in to investigate and begins to suspect it’s the work of a serial killer.

GEOSTORM – OCTOBER 20TH

Finally, Gerard Butler’s disaster movie — let’s hope in theme only — gets a solid release date.  The movie, tagline Brave The Storm, will release three years to the day after it actually began filming.  Jerry Bruckheimer came in to extensively curate this movie with big re-shoots last December, so maybe it won’t be as bad as some fear.

Synopsis: After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong: the system built to protect Earth is attacking it, and it becomes a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone along with it.

WHEELMAN – OCTOBER 20TH

Is this the strongest contender for best movie on this entire list?  It could be.  Especially if it harkens back to old 1970s heist action/thrillers that I love so much.  This one, starring Frank Grillo, is a Netflix project.  So hopefully it’ll be more UHD eye-heroin, that they’re so good at providing us with.

Synopsis: A getaway driver is double-crossed during a bank robbery gone wrong. With his family on the line, he races to find out exactly who betrayed him before time runs out.
