With the recent talk of Fox potentially selling off properties to Disney and the disappointing results and reception of Alien: Covenant, you might think some big alterations could be incoming for the franchise.
However, Ridley Scott says his next prequel is still going ahead. And despite no-one asking for it, he’s promising less Alien, more A.I.
“We are [going to make another], we are. I think what we have to do is gradually drift away from the alien stuff. People say, ‘You need more alien, you need more face pulling, need more chest bursting,’ so I put a lot of that in ‘Covenant’ and it fitted nicely. But I think if you go again you need to start finding another solution that’s more interesting. I think AI is becoming much more dangerous and therefore more interesting.”
The old ‘A.I. is a thing now, so we’re going to make a movie about it’ chestnut. We’ve heard that for decades, and our A.I. is still the drizzling shits, therefore less interesting.
Covenant pulled $240 million, but coming from a $100 million budget, this is not a good number in this day and age. Someone needs to take the old man aside and have a talk…
