Underrated Manly Movies Part IX
CAPRICORN ONE (1977)
It’s always good to get a Peter Hyams movie in on lists like this. One of his earlier efforts was Capricorn One.
This movie has America and the world hyped up for the first manned mission to Mars. Except that in real life, such a trip would have the crew of the Capricorn One have their tickets stamped one way, because it simply would not be possible. However, politics demand that we come on in for the big win anyway — the mission is faked, and the crew are forced to play along.
This movie is obviously a nod to the Moon Landing theories. And if I’m honest, there is something mildly disturbing about this movie, with that in mind. But we’ll just put that down to Hyams knowing how to make a damn good film.
