A while back it was revealed that Neil Blomkamp would direct a sequel to RoboCop, titled RoboCop Returns. The question arose however of who would play RoboCop. It’s not that Peter Weller is too old — most of his face never shows anyway and CGI can do wonders for that — rather, Peter Weller often shits on RoboCop and refuses to even talk about it. Even though his career was nothing without it.
Well it turns out that Blomkamp is still hopeful. See his Tweet below.

I wouldn’t call this a ‘coded hint’, but of course this should be the first person they’d go to.
The new film will be a direct sequel to the original based on an unused RoboCop 2 screenplay by original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, with rewrites by Justin Rhodes. Elements of this screenplay can supposedly be found in the pilot for the 1990’s TV series.
Here is a brief plot synopses for RoboCop Returns: Anarchy reigns and the fate of Detroit hangs in the balance as RoboCop makes his triumphant return to fight crime and corruption.
Pity they’re ignoring RoboCop 2 though, it’s a good sequel.
So apparently we’re entering a new trend in Hollywood… take old classics and give them sequels that ignore poor entries that came before. The mind boggles though. Who else will ‘return’ in the new movie? They have to let ED-209 go on another rampage.
