Mayans M.C. To Crossover SOA

EW reports this week that according to original series creator Kurt Sutter, his wife and actress Katey Sagal will reprise her role of Gemma Teller Morrow for a flashback sequence set eight years before the primary events of the new series.

Speaking of the cameo, Sutter says:

“It’s a flashback to eight years ago and a way of letting us know that he’s in Stockton where the two worlds will collide, at least in memory. I don’t want to mess with that [SOA] mythology. That mythology can live in imagination. But flashbacks wouldn’t be stepping on what is happening now.”

The new series will then take place two years after the end of the original series.  So in a sense it is a sequel series.
