UPDATED: Weller says he does not know what people are talking about, when they say he’s no longer interested in appearing in RoboCop Returns. Here is what has been written in the Calgary Herald:
“The guy I was just talking to said ‘I understand you are not doing it and refuse to do it,’ ” says Weller, talking with Postmedia from Italy during a round of promotional interviews to preview his appearance at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. “I said ‘I don’t know where you heard that, because Neill Blomkamp and I are talking consistently about it.’ So I’ll put the kibosh on that. If that turns out, I’ll do that with him because he is great.”
Weller also says he’ll do it simply for the money, if nothing else. Weller also says he has only recently realized that RoboCop had satirical depth.
PREVIOUSLY: Neill Blomkamp may no longer be making a direct sequel to Aliens, but he is making a direct sequel to RoboCop titled RoboCop Returns. But while he had big names lined up for the Alien movie like Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver, it appears the star of RoboCop will not be returning.
According to SuperBroMovies:
Although the project is still in its early stages, Neill Blomkamp’s RoboCop Returns is already gearing up to be one hell of a ride. There’s only one issue, franchise star Peter Weller isn’t interested in returning to the titular role, the actor’s representatives confirmed to SuperBroMovies.
Some had thought that Weller had grown out of his ‘shit on the movie that made me’ phase when he in recent years began talking fondly of RoboCop again and that this might be a good sign of him returning. It appears not though; Peter Weller is too good for RoboCop.
