Trailer: Gangs of London (2020)

More news recently regarding The Raid remake, but what of Gareth Evans, the Welshman behind the franchise? Well, he’s been working on a series for Sky, Gangs of London, which seems to be coming along quite nicely, and with the director’s trademark flair for extreme violence, judging from the trailer below. Gangs of London, perhaps not unpredictably, concerns international gangs as they conduct bloody turf wars on the streets of modern day London. The series stars Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and also sees the welcome return of Mads Koudal who was cool in Evans’ earlier films, Footsteps (2006) and Merantau Warrior (2009), Evans’ first Indonesian martial arts effort with Iko Uwais. While the former isn’t really worth checking out except for the most devoted of Evans’ fanboys, the latter certainly is.

I find it hard to mention Gareth Evans without talking about how disappointed I was with The Raid 2, and the trailer for Gangs of London is quite reminiscent of that, but hopefully Evans has fine tuned his story telling skills somewhat since then. If anyone hasn’t checked out his last film, Apostle, I’d recommend that.

Gangs of London is, presumably, coming out later this year, although it doesn’t appear to have been given an official release date as yet.
