MURPHY TALKS BEVERLY HILLS COP 4

Beverly Hills Cop III was a critical and financial failure and with a failed TV pilot that was reportedly rejected like a rod of uranium, from even the trashiest TV networks, it looked like the franchise was dead.  Eddie Murphy though says no.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Murphy said that “right now, they are writing a script.”

He also said: “We don’t have a start date, but we have directors and we have producers – and we have writers working on it. Axel Foley is ready to go. All we need is a script.”

“We’ve been trying to do ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ for over 10 years and this is the closest we’ve got to it.

“We have directors who are smart and ready to go – and we have great ideas.

“It also looks like we’ve got the original producer who produced the original ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ – Jerry Bruckheimer – involved again too.

“He’s actually the person who brought these two directors to the movie. I feel like we’re on the right track now. We’re nearly there.”

As for Triplets, the sequel to Twins, starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger, which Murphy was set to join them for, that project is further out.

“We’re really, really far away from Triplets,” Murphy said.

“My next movie is going to be ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ more than likely, but ‘Triplets’ is really, really far away.”

I wonder if Beverly Hills Cop 4 may be hanging on the success of Coming 2 America.  If that film is successful, along with Top Gun: Maverick, we’ll probably see Foley correct the Wonderworld/Uncle Dave horror.  Mind you, don’t forget… ‘Cop III was not as bad as, say, RoboCop 3.  At least the former was R-rated and one of its criticisms was offering too much ‘uninspired violence’.  Maybe time for a revisit?
